"Suspended in Blue" to open on 7 October 2010

New Hampshire artist and gallery owner, Jamie LaFleur, will open an exhibition of his most recent paintings, Suspended in Blue, at Discover Portsmouth, October 7th, 2010, from 5:00-7:00

Suspended in Blue

How does one experience blue; that is the question I asked when I first reviewed artist Jamie LaFleur’s current work.  Blue of a wide variety of hues, values and tonal qualities predominate, applied in a plethora of techniques from impasto to pointillist-esque to broad flat surfaces.  While one generally thinks of blue as a calm, soothing, reassuring color, LaFleur demonstrates that there is plenty of edginess and tension to be found in his blue world.

Artist's Log

Lafleur is the son of two artists. He was exposed and encouraged in the visual arts from as early as he can remember. His formal study was at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. After leaving college Lafleur worked in design and found himself managing a gallery in Newport, RI. After five years in Rhode Island, LaFleur decided to relocate to Portsmouth, NH where he opened The Banks Gallery. Through his work in the gallery LaFleur has dedicated himself to both painting and the study of American Art.
